Hummus with a Kick

THE CREAMIEST, DREAMIEST HUMMUS WITH A KICK!

If you love classic hummus but want something with a little more kick, this Sambal Hummus is for you.

By blending Everiday Sambal right into the mix, you get a creamy, tangy hummus with a spicy Southeast Asian twist that’s completely irresistible.

Just like traditional hummus, the secret to making it super smooth is whipping the tahini and lemon juice first, then slowly blending in very cold water. This step makes all the difference, it lightens the tahini and creates a base that’s luxuriously creamy. From there, we add chickpeas, garlic, olive oil, and instead of cumin, a big spoonful of Everiday Sambal. The sambal brings depth, heat, and a flavor boost that transforms ordinary hummus into something bold and exciting.

Serving Suggestions
  • Pair with warm pita, naan, or flatbread
  • Serve as a spicy dip for crudités
  • Spread on sandwiches, wraps, or burgers for a flavor upgrade
  • Dollop on grain bowls or salads for extra protein and spice
  • Top with a drizzle of olive oil, toasted sesame seeds, or even more Everiday Sambal

Flavor Variations
Want to play around even more? Try:
  • Adding roasted peppers or beetroot for a smoky-sweet layer with the sambal
  • Stirring in herbs like cilantro or Thai basil for freshness
  • Swirling in Everiday Garlic Chili Oil for extra heat and richness
  • Topping with crushed nuts or seeds for crunch
This sambal hummus is simple, versatile, and guaranteed to wow anyone who loves bold flavors. It’s East-meets-Middle East in the most delicious way.

Hummus with a Kick

PREPARATION TIME: 15 MIN | TOTAL TIME: 15 MIN

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/4 cup hulled tahini
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 3 to 4 Tbsp VERY cold water
  • 1 can chickpeas, thoroughly washed and if you want to go the extra mile, remove the skins
  • 2 garlic clove
  • 1 Tbsp Everiday Sambal
  • 3 Tbsp extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for serving
  • Salt to taste
  • Garnish - a dash of paprika or sumac, fresh herbs, a drizzle of olive oil

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a blender, combine the tahini, lemon juice, and COLD water.  Blend for 1 minute, scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl then process for 30 seconds more. This extra time helps “whip” the tahini, making the hummus smooth and creamy.
  2. Add your chickpeas, along with the rest of the ingredients and blend for 1 to 2 minutes or until smooth and creamy.  Scrape down the sides of the blender as needed to get every little bit.
  3. Garnish and serve
